United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed deep concern over the “hundreds of Israeli air strikes” on Syrian territory, calling for an “urgent need to de-escalate violence on all fronts throughout the country,” according to his spokesman.
Meanwhile, United States National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan defended Israel’s actions, stating that its forces are working to “neutralize” potential threats.
In response to the ongoing crisis, Jordan is set to host a high-level summit on Syria this weekend. The meeting will bring together top diplomats from Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt, the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Turkiye, the United States, the European Union, and the United Nations to address the escalating tensions.
Additionally, the UN envoy for Syria highlighted disturbing images from Sednaya Prison and other detention centers, describing them as evidence of the “unimaginable barbarity” endured by Syrians for years.
