Spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Esmaeil Baqaei said the country’s peaceful nuclear activities are under surveillance of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Press TV reported.
Asked by reporters about the recent comments from IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi that Iran has enhanced its uranium enrichment capabilities, the spokesperson said on Saturday that the UN nuclear chief’s remarks pointed to the “confrontational and unconstructive” move by the European troika and the US at the IAEA Board of Governors that initiated and passed a resolution against Iran without any logical justification or on any legal basis.
He pointed to Grossi’s last visit to Iran during which Tehran and the IAEA agreed to strengthen technical cooperation, saying, “Grossi had come to Iran with initiatives, but it were the three European countries and the US that rendered the (IAEA) secretary general’s efforts futile by pursuing the policy of pressure and abuse of the Board of Governors.”
Esmaeil Baqaei underlined that Iran’s peaceful nuclear program is being pursued quite clearly and under the surveillance of the IAEA in compliance with the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and the comprehensive safeguards agreement.
He also stated that Iran had precisely informed the IAEA about its recent nuclear activities which are under constant surveillance.
