Chief Advisor to the interim government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus said the uprising achieved through the sacrifice of the youth is the new significance of this year’s book fair.
He said this in his speech after inaugurating the Amar Ekushey Book Fair on Saturday afternoon.
The chief advisor said, “The historic uprising of the students and the mass people on August 5 last year brought down the tyrannical government that had been on the back of the nation for 16 years. This unprecedented sacrifice of our brave youth has astonished the world.”
Recalling the casualties of the July uprising, Professor Muhammad Yunus said, “This victory has brought a steely resolve to build a new Bangladesh.’
He also said, “This year’s book fair has come before us with a new significance by the the uprising achieved through great sacrifice. The theme of this year's book fair is the July mass uprising and the construction of a new Bangladesh through it. Ekushey has always meant awakening, Ekushey means facing one's identity, Ekushey means endless struggle, expanding one's horizons even further.”
“This year's Ekushey is to replace our perspective with a new horizon. The commitment that was in the blood of Barkat, Salam, Rafiq, and Jabbar had the explosive power to ensure the July uprising,” he added.
This month-long book fair, the country's largest of this kind, is being held at the Bangla Academy and Suhrawardy Udyan premises.
