Five Israeli soldiers were killed in a rocket attack by the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah. Nineteen other soldiers were reported injured, among whom four are in serious condition.
Israeli media outlet Times of Israel reported that the casualties occurred in southern Lebanon on Friday.
The slain soldiers include Major Dan Maori (43), Captain Alon Safrai (28), Warrant Officer Omri Lotan (47), Warrant Officer Guy Idan (51), and Master Sergeant Tom Segal (28).
All of them were reportedly reservists, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
The IDF stated in their preliminary report that the soldiers were stationed in a village in southern Lebanon when Hezbollah fighters launched rockets at them.
At the time of the attack, the soldiers were receiving supplies and ammunition from other troops.
All of the deceased were members of the 89th Battalion of the Eighth Armored Brigade, with Maori serving as the assistant battalion commander.
