Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised victory during a visit to troops, stated that the military has significantly changed the situation since the October 7 attack by Hamas. This attack led to ongoing wars in Gaza and Lebanon.
Netanyahu said Israel "will win" as it prepares to fight militants and possibly target Iran. The head of Israel's army claimed they have defeated Hamas's military branch, but Netanyahu added that militants are regrouping in areas previously cleared by Israeli forces, reports AFP.
In late September, Israel shifted its focus to intensifying military actions against Hezbollah, which had been launching rockets from Lebanon in support of Hamas. Netanyahu stated that, after suffering a severe blow a year ago, Israel has "completely transformed reality."
On the anniversary of the October 7 attack, Hamas called it "glorious," claiming that Palestinians are "writing a new history with their resistance." The attack resulted in 1,205 deaths, mostly civilians, and dozens of hostages remain captive. At least 370 people died in a single incident at the Nova rave in the Negev desert, which was commemorated in Tel Aviv with candles and prayer.
- Destroyed, displaced -
In northern Gaza, Israeli forces have encircled the Jabaliya area due to indications that Hamas is rebuilding there, despite a year of airstrikes and conflict. Recent airstrikes resulted in the deaths of 17 people, including nine children.
According to the Hamas-run health ministry, the military offensive in Gaza has claimed at least 41,870 lives, mostly civilians, with many displaced and much of the infrastructure destroyed.
As fighting escalates in Lebanon, Netanyahu assured French President Emmanuel Macron that Israel's actions would promote "stability, security, and peace" in the region.
Meanwhile, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati called for international pressure on Israel for a ceasefire.
U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris said that Washington would continue to push for a Gaza truce, and leaders from Jordan and the UAE urged stronger international efforts to end the wars. However, attempts to secure a truce and release of hostages have failed, with critics accusing Netanyahu of obstructing negotiations.
Israel remains on high alert ahead of the October 7 anniversary, anticipating potential attacks.
