After being stabbed several times at an event in New York on Friday, Salman Rushdie’s condition is not good and he’s unable to speak, informed his agent Andrew Wylie, reports BBC.
After necessary operation is done, he’s now on a ventilator and because of the several stabbing his body took, he may lose one eye, he added.
Further, he informed that his lever is also injured, the nerves in the arms are severed and the abdomen is also got seriously injured.
Mr Rushdie has suffered years of death threats after writing ‘The Satanic Verse,’ published in 1988.
Police detained a suspect named as Hadi Matar, 24, from Fairview, New Jersey.
New York State Police said the suspect ran onto the stage and attacked Mr Rushdie and an interviewer at the Chautauqua Institution in western New York state.
The Indian originated, Booker prize winner British writer Rushdie (75) got reputation as a writer with his novel ‘Midnight's Children,’ published in 1981. However, he got threat from the fundamentalists after publishing his fourth book ‘Satanic Verses,’ as many people thought here he defamed Islam.
