The Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) has officially launched the "Online Gate Pass" system to streamline and speed up port operations.
CPA Chairman Rear Admiral SM Moniruzzaman inaugurated the system during a ceremony at Gate No 4 of the port on Tuesday.
Previously, vehicles arriving at the port for delivery had to obtain gate passes manually, which took around 15-20 minutes, leading to long queues at the port gates and traffic congestion in the surrounding areas.
To address these issues, the CPA introduced the online gate pass system on 1 January this year, aimed at reducing traffic congestion and improving vehicle tracking and monitoring.
Following the system’s success, the CPA officially launched it on Tuesday, enabling transport workers to obtain gate passes online before arriving at the port.
While inaugurating the system, Rear Admiral Moniruzzaman noted, “The digital gate pass is a modern system that will significantly accelerate port operations.” He added, “It will also make it easier to monitor the number of vehicles entering the port gates, making the port's transport department more efficient.”
The initiative is expected to enhance port efficiency, reduce vessel turnaround time, and speed up cargo handling, he concluded.
