Dubai International Airport (DXB) is bracing for a New Year travel surge, expecting over 5.2 million passengers between December 13 and 31, with peak activity projected from December 20 to 22. To manage this busy period, Dubai Customs has ramped up operations with expanded inspection teams and advanced technology, reports Khaleej Times.
The authority deployed 77 inspection devices, including 58 for large luggage and 19 for hand luggage, alongside additional support tools. Enhanced staffing and streamlined processes aim to ensure smooth passenger flow during the holiday rush.
Central to these efforts is the introduction of the smart iDeclare app, enabling travellers to declare goods, personal belongings, gifts, and currencies in advance. This digital solution cuts customs clearance times to under four minutes at the red channel, significantly reducing wait times.
Khaled Ahmed Khoury, Acting Director of Passenger Operations at Dubai Customs, emphasized the importance of collaboration and efficiency during peak periods, stating that Dubai Customs prioritizes seamless operations without compromising security.
The authority has implemented 24/7 communication between duty teams, building managers, and team leaders, along with on-ground visits by senior staff to address challenges and oversee operations.
Travellers can access detailed customs information, including duty-free exemptions and prohibited items, on the Dubai Customs website at dubaicustoms.gov.ae. These measures underscore Dubai’s commitment to enhancing passenger satisfaction and maintaining DXB’s reputation as a leading global airport.
