Bangladesh Bank (BB) on Tuesday informed that classified loans in the country’s banking sector hit an all-time high of over Tk 211,000 crore at the end of June of this year.
According to the latest BB data, the total classified loans of banks stood at Tk 211,391 crore, accounting for 12.56 per cent of the total outstanding loans worth Tk 16,83,396 crore.
During the June quarter (April-June), classified loans rose by Tk 29,096 crore from Tk 182,295 crore as of March 30.
The central bank data showed that state-owned commercial banks hold the largest share of the classified loans (Tk 1,02,483 crore or 32.77 per cent) followed by specialised banks (Tk5,756 crore or 13.11 per cent), private commercial banks (Tk 99,921 crore or 7.94 per cent), and foreign commercial banks (Tk 3,229 crore or 4.74 per cent).
