State Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid on Tuesday said power prices would be hiked by 34-70 paisa per unit.
The fresh adjustment of the prices would be effective from the first week of March, he added.
Earlier, the state minister said the price of electricity would be coordinated at the wholesale level as well. However, the price will be increased so that it does not have much impact on consumers.
Meanwhile, energy experts and economists take strong exception to the government proposal to further increase electricity tariffs.
They also suggest reappraisal of the power sector's financial management, specifically pointing out excessive and questionable spending, as a more effective remedy for the sector's financial woes.
