Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Lilly Nicholls, Iran Ambassador Mansour Chavoshi and Nepal Ambassador Ghanshyam Bhandari have separately paid courtesy calls on State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu.
They also expressed their eagerness to enhance bilateral relations and trade with Bangladesh during the meeting held at the commerce ministry in Dhaka on Monday, said a press release of the commerce ministry, reports Daily Sun.
While holding a meeting with Lilly Nicholls, Titu shared Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s plan with the Canadian high commissioner to expand the country’s export market and diversify the export basket worldwide.
“Our significant portion of export earnings comes from the garment sector and we are interested in exporting medicines and bicycles,” he said.
Lilly Nicholls praised Sheikh Hasina’s visionary leadership and highlighted a long-standing relationship between Bangladesh and Canada.
She also expressed her country’s keenness to export oil, dry foods and nonperishable goods like fruit juices to Bangladesh.
Besides, during a meeting with the Iranian ambassador, he said that the issue of financial transition appears as a big problem in doing business with Iran.
In that case, Titu urged the Iranian ambassador to talk to the Central Bank of Bangladesh to resolve the issue.
Later during a meeting with Nepal's ambassador, the junior commerce minister underscored the need for reaching a preferential trade agreement between the two countries to accelerate trade and commerce for mutual benefit.
