The government will procure three cargoes LNG from two companies of Singapore with around Tk 1,274.12 crore to meet the growing demand of energy.
The approval came from the 3rd meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) in this year held on Wednesday at Cabinet Division at Bangladesh Secretariat with Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali in the chair.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, Cabinet Division additional secretary Sayeed Mahbub Khan said that the day's meeting approved a total of seven proposals, reports BSS.
Mahbub Khan said following three separate proposals from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, Petrobangla would procure LNG through quotation from the signatory companies of the Master Sale and Purchase Agreement.
He said Petrobangla would procure one cargo LNG from M/S Gulberg Singapore Private Limited with around Tk 425.82 crore while the Petrobangla would procure another one cargo LNG from M/S Gulberg Singapore Private Ltd with around Tk 425.82 crore where per MMBtu LNG would cost $9.847.
Besides, in another proposal, Petrobangla would procure another one cargo LNG from M/S Vitol Asia Private Limited, Singapore with around Tk 422.49 crore where per MMBtu LNG would cost $9.770.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given approval for procuring some 13 cargo LNG from the spot market from January to June period of 2024 where four cargo LNG would be required by March.
Mahbub said following a proposal from the Ministry of Shipping, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) would procure cutter suction dredger for dredging the Old Brahmaputra River.
Western Engineering would supply the dredger with around Tk 76.66 crore, he added.
