The beans of Goalgadda variant produced in Sylhet is now being exported to 13 countries in the world including those of Middle East and Europe.
According to the local agriculture office, the seeds of Goalgadda beans don’t produce good harvest except those are sowed in 3 unions in Sylhet. The beans of this variants are bigger than other variants and its tastier to eat. The demand of this variant is very good as well.
These beans are exported from November-March. President of Jalalabad Vegetable and Frozen Fish Exporters Mostafizur Rahman said five thousand kgs of beans are being exported on an average every day in the current season.
According to Sylhet regional office of the Directorate of Agriculture, more or less beans are being produced in all upazilas of Sylhet district. The highest production takes place in the three unions of Golapganj upazila, Lakshmanaband, Laxmipasha and Phulbari. The soil and environment of these areas are suitable for Goalgadda beans cultivation. Goalgadda beans have been cultivated in 600 hectares of land in the current season. There are plans to promote bean cultivation in more areas next year. Agriculture officials also expect to produce hundreds of tons of beans in the current season.
