A total of 130 garment factories in Ashulia, Savar and Dhamrai have been declared closed due to ongoing protest of garmenyts workers.
The closure notices were seen at the entrances of factories on Saturday, reports UNB.
Mohammad Sarwar Alam, superintendent of Savar Industrial Police, said the authorities concerned has closed 130 garment factories in Savar, Ashulia and Dhamrai for an indefinite period.
During a visit, several garment factories including Rose Dresses Limited, Ananta Garments Limited, Pioneer Limited, AR Jeans Producer Limited, Agami Apparels Limited, Crosswear Limited, Sain Apparels Limited, Textown Limited, Ornet Knit Garments Industries Limited and others were seen to be closed.
Garment workers in different parts of the country have been demonstrating for over a week demanding a hike in basic salary to Tk 23,000.
The government on November 7 fixed Tk 12,500 as the minimum salary for entry-level RMG workers.
