Temporary workers of Bangladesh Railway, who earlier blocked the rail line near Karwan Bazar on Tuesday, removed their blockade after over two hours.
Mohiuddin Arif, divisional manager of Bangladesh Railway for Dhaka, said that the workers removed the blockade around 12:50pm.
The protest had disrupted rail communication between Dhaka and most parts of the country.
The workers staged the demonstration to press home two demands — payment of five months' due wages and the regularisation of their jobs.
While removing the blockade, the protesters issued an ultimatum, saying they expect a response from the government by Thursday.
"If our demands are not met, we will go for tougher movements starting next Sunday," one of the protesters said.
Officer-in-Charge of Kamalapur Railway Police Station earlier said that the blockade started at 10:30am.
