Reigning champions Bashundhara Kings suffered a shocking 0-2 goal defeat against Fortis Football Club in their second Group A match of the ongoing Bashundhara Group Federation Cup 2024-25 at the Bashundhara Kings Arena on Tuesday.
After a barren first half, Uzbek defender Jasur Jumaev and local forward Md Abdullah scored one each for Fortis FC within seven minutes (71st-78th minutes) of the second half.
Jumaev opened account for Fortis with a header off a corner from Ukrainian forward Valerii Hryshyn while Abdullah sealed the fate of the game with a right-footed shot off a pass from forward Piash Ahmmed Nova.
The holders earlier started their campaign in the 10-team competition with a hard-fought 1-0 goal win over Brothers Union Ltd at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla while Fortis played out a goalless draw with Police Football Club at the Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh, both on 3 December.
In the day’s other match of the five-team Group A, Brothers Union Ltd punished debutants Dhaka Wanderers Club by 8-0 goals in Mymensingh.
Forward Sazzad Hossen and Gambian forward Mustapha Drammeh both scored hat-tricks while midfielder Kawsar Ali Rabbi and forward Eleta Kingsley added one each for Brothers.
Sazzad scored in the 29th, 48th and 82nd minutes while Mustapha scored in the 25th, 65th and 70th minutes. Rabbi scored in the 8th minute while Eleta in the 90+3rd minute.
