Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced on Monday that all-rounder Mehidy Hasan will lead the 15-member ODI squad in the upcoming three-match T20 series against West Indies, reports the Daily Sun.
BCB stated that Mehidy will lead the side in the absence of regular skipper Najmul Hossain in the upcoming three-match series, scheduled from 8 December at St Kitts.
Along with Najmul, Mushfiqur Rahim and Towhid Hridoy have been ruled out due to respective injuries as well.
“All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz will now lead the Bangladesh side in ODIs for the first time in the absence of Najmul Hossain Shanto who is still recovering from a groin injury,” a BCB statement read.
“Hridoy had complained of pain in his right groin region and subsequent investigations have confirmed the presence of a medical condition. He has been advised rest and we will reassess him in two weeks to determine his readiness to play,” added BCB Sports Physician Monzur Hossain Chowdhury.
Wicket-keeper batsman Liton Kumar Das, Parvez Hossain Emon, Afif Hossain Dhrubo, Hasan Mahmud, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib returned to the ODI squad.
Parvez earlier was picked in 2021 against West Indies though did not get a game during the series.
Meanwhile, along with the trio- Mushfiqur, Najmul, and Towhid- Mustafizur Rahman and Zakir Hasan were not picked for the series.
Mustafizur wanted a leave from the series to be with his wife who is expected to give birth to their first child in December. Zakir was dropped due to form.
“Fellow left-hander Zakir Hasan, who was in the team in last month’s ODI series against Afghanistan in the UAE, has been dropped,” said in the statement.
The second and third ODIs are scheduled respectively on 10 and 12 December at the same venue.
