Consular services are being suspended at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala of India, after an attack took place on it.
The interim government of Bangladesh took this decision on Tuesday.
In this regard, Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain told the media that for security reasons, a decision has been taken to suspend consular services at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala for the time being. As a result, Bangladesh visa services from that mission will remain suspended.
On Monday afternoon, extremists attacked the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Pranay Kumar Verma on an urgent basis in connection with the incident of attack, vandalism, breaking the flag stand and burning the national flag.
In addition, a note has been sent to India’s Foreign Ministry to strengthen the security of all Bangladesh missions in India, including Agartala, to prevent the recurring of such heinous incidents. The concerned officials confirmed that the note was sent carrying the strong protest of Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday evening.
India's Ministry of External Affairs immediately expressed regret over the attack on the Agartala mission and seven people were arrested over involvement in the incident. India also took action against four police officers for their negligence in duty.
