Shakib Al Hasan is set to return to Bangladesh before the Test series against South Africa.
During the Test series in India, the ace all-rounder announced that he would have his last match in red-ball cricket against the Proteas.
A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) source confirmed that he may arrive in the country on Thursday.
“It is confirmed that he will come. It is yet to be confirmed but it may be on Thursday,” the source said on Tuesday.
The series is set to begin on 21 October. The first match will be in Mirpur while the second Test is scheduled for 29 October in Chattogram.
Before the second Test against India in Kanpur last month, Shakib had announced that he would retire from Test cricket after the home series against South Africa. However, the condition is that if he needs to be assured a ‘safe exit’.
After the fall of the Hasina-led Awami regime, Shakib was accused in a murder case.
