Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has banned Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag for two years in connection with pecuniary irregularities, reports Daily Sun.
Besides, the FIFA fined him for the offence.
Following the ban, Abu Nayeem Shohag will not be able to take part in any football activities for the period.
In December 2022, FIFA show-caused Abu Nayeem Shohag and two other officials after the audit committee of the world football governing body found irregularities in the procurement process of the BFF.
Two other show-caused officials are — BFF chief financial officer Abu Hossain and assistant finance officer Anupam Sarkar.
FIFA rule qualifies the lowest bidder from three organisations to earn the procurement rights and the BFF claimed to have followed it.
However, the FIFA audit committee discovered differences between the procurement receipt and the bidder’s quotation.
The BFF also violated FIFA rules by not paying wages of their workers for three months and using the fund for procurement reasons.
