After the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) took a stern position against Shakib Al Hasan’s contract with a betting company brand, the Bangladesh all-rounder cancelled his contract on Thursday.
BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said, "Shakib sent us a letter confirming the cancellation of his contract with that company," reports UNB.
According to BCB’s regulation, no cricketer is allowed to work with any organization that is involved in betting-related activities. Each cricketer is bound to inform BCB before making any business contract with any organization, but Shakib did not inform the board about his contract.
Earlier on Thursday BCB President Nazmul Hasan Papon said, "we have a zero-tolerance policy against betting and betting-related activities. If he (Shakib) continues his contract with that organization, we will not consider him for the national team."
