The conflict between Myanmar Army and Arakan Army in Rakhine of Myanmar has taken a terrible turn. As a result, the lives of ordinary people in the conflict-ridden region have been endangered. There has been a severe food and medicine crisis among the Rohingya population living there. In this situation, there is a fear of another Rohingya influx towards Bangladesh.
If a new influx starts again in the midst of the 1.3 million Rohingyas presence in Bangladesh that have become a 'thorn in the side', Bangladesh will be under more pressure surely. Experts are of the opinion that criminal activities will increase in the country due to the crime-prone Rohingya population.
In this regard, former diplomat and military analyst Major (retd.) Emdadul Islam said, “The new Rohingya influx will create more pressure on the quality of life and humanitarian services in the refugee camps. The terrorist groups are already active in the Rohingya camps and the spread of criminal activities may increase further through the newly arrived Rohingya. Therefore, it is important to resolve this crisis through bilateral talks with Myanmar. Otherwise, a terrible crisis awaits the country.”
Rohingya community leader Anis Mustafa said, “Both the Myanmar army and the Arakan Army are carrying out aggression against the Rohingyas in Rakhine. At the same time, there is a food and medicine crisis. If this situation persists, the humanitarian situation in Rakhine will take a terrible shape.”
It is known that the conflict between the Myanmar army and the armed group Arakan Army in Rakhine State began last year. Due to the internal conflict, the lives of civilians in the region have become endangered. Due to the conflict and the extreme deterioration of the humanitarian situation, there has been an acute crisis of food and medicine among the Rohingya population living there. The delivery of humanitarian aid to the conflict areas is being hampered.
As a result, the local population, especially the Rohingyas, is suffering from an acute shortage of food and medical supplies. Ordinary people are becoming victims of the warring parties. Rohingya homes are being destroyed. People are living in extreme fear due to the deterioration of the security situation.
In this situation, there is a fear that a large number of Rohingyas will again flock towards Bangladesh to save their lives. In the past few months, there have been reports of new Rohingya infiltration into Bangladesh, which is further increasing the humanitarian and economic pressure on the country. Since August 2024, another 100,000 Rohingyas have fled Rakhine to Bangladesh due to the war between the Arakan Army and the Myanmar Army. This has increased the number of Rohingyas in the country by more than 1.35 million in the last 6 years.
