During a gathering of some of Hollywood's most influential women, Selena Gomez, star of Emilia Pérez, delivered a powerful keynote address emphasizing the need to prioritize mental health, especially in underserved communities,reports UNB.
Speaking at the Academy Women’s Luncheon on Tuesday, Gomez highlighted the importance of taking actionable steps to make mental health resources accessible to those often overlooked. The singer and actor who has openly shared her experience with bipolar disorder, stressed the value of collective efforts.
In 2020, Gomez launched the Rare Impact Fund alongside her Rare Beauty cosmetics line, committing 1% of all sales to support mental health initiatives aimed at young people. “When we unite, we can make a real impact,” she said.
Reflecting on her own experiences, Gomez spoke about the isolating nature of mental health struggles and the comfort found in solidarity. “Being here with all these incredible women reminds me I’m not alone. Together, we can create a ripple effect that transcends our individual lives,” she said.
The event, held at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, attracted several notable attendees, including Ariana Grande, Olivia Wilde, Amy Adams, and Ava DuVernay. Gomez praised her recent project, Emilia Pérez, for its collaborative environment and highlighted the exceptional contributions of women both on and off-camera.
She also commended the event for spotlighting women in filmmaking and the Academy Gold Fellowship for Women, which nurtures emerging female filmmakers.
“It’s an honor to be among so many inspiring women,” Gomez said. “Their work empowers not just our industry, but the world.”
The luncheon, sponsored by Chanel celebrated women's roles in film and their creative endeavors.
