The Hili Land Port Customs Department is set to auction 76 vehicles of various types tomorrow (Sunday).
The auction comes as part of efforts to dispose of ownerless vehicles seized over time by the border guard force and other law enforcement agencies.
Md Shafiul Islam, revenue officer at Hili Land Port Customs, said that many of these vehicles have remained unused for a long period, making them practically unfit for operation.
“Considering their condition, and with court approval, it was decided to sell these vehicles through a public auction,” he said.
The auction will take place at the Hili Land Port Customs Department office on May 17, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm in the presence of registered buyers.
Nargis Begum, Assistant Commissioner of Hili Customs, said that the vehicles will be sold to the highest bidder among schedule buyers in accordance with the established rules.
The 76 vehicles up for sale include 12 motorcycles, 62 bicycles, an easy bike, and a pedal van, with an estimated total value of around Tk 1 crore.
According to customs sources, the participation fee for the auction was set at Tk 300 per schedule, with 106 schedules sold by the final day of tender submission.
Jahangir Alam, Assistant Revenue Officer, noted that the last general auction took place in 2022 and that the department has made extensive preparations to ensure a fair and orderly process.
“After a long interval, this auction has attracted significant interest, and we are ready to conduct it in a peaceful and transparent manner,” he added.
