Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam said that the government does not want to undertake mega projects by wasting public money.
He mentioned that, unlike the previous Awami League government, the current government does not intend to take up large-scale projects without proper assessment, which could lead to misuse of public funds.
Shaikh Rabiul made the remarks at a workshop titled “Dhaka East-West Elevated Expressway” held at a city hotel on Tuesday.
He said it is not enough to show a project’s benefits on paper, people must feel its real impact.
He added that realistic planning and proper use of taxpayers’ money will be given top priority in taking up any project.
The minister also said a perception has developed among the public that big projects mean big corruption, and this negative idea must be changed through tangible results.
