Building on the success of the e-Bail Bond system in modernising the country’s justice process, the government is preparing to expand the programme to seven additional districts to reduce delays, simplify procedures, and enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency in bail management.
The system is expected to be launched soon in Bogura, Jhenaidah, Jashore, Magura, Rajshahi, Natore and Kushtia.
“Following the directive of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman, work to expand the programme has already begun. The ‘e-Bail Bond’ system is expected to be officially launched in the selected districts by the first week of April,” said Md Khadem Ul Kayes, Additional Secretary of the Law and Justice Division.
As part of the rollout, a consultation meeting was held on March 3, chaired by Liaquet Ali Molla, Secretary of the Law and Justice Division, with District and Sessions Judges, Metropolitan Sessions Judges, Chief Judicial Magistrates, and Chief Metropolitan Magistrates of the seven districts.
A virtual meeting followed on March 4 with government pleaders, public prosecutors, and leaders of the districts’ bar associations to ensure smooth implementation, Kayes added.
Since its introduction, the e-Bail Bond Management System has been launched in nine districts, marking a major milestone in digitising the judiciary and improving bail proceedings’ transparency, accountability, and efficiency.
The system was first introduced in Narayanganj on October 15, 2025, and in the second phase, it expanded on January 21 to Manikganj, Bandarban, Meherpur, Joypurhat, Moulvibazar, Panchagarh, Jhalokathi and Sherpur.
According to ministry data, 19,185 litigants have benefited from the system in the nine districts so far. Nearly 12,000 cases were completed in Narayanganj alone, while more than 7,000 digital bail bonds have been processed across the other eight districts.
“Previously, completing a bail bond required 13 manual steps from court to jail. With the ‘e-Bail Bond’ system, the process now takes just three main steps, greatly accelerating bail proceedings,” said Md Azizul Haque, Joint Secretary (Admin-1).
The online system has also reduced harassment by middlemen and enabled the faster release of accused persons.
“Officials are working on a plan to gradually implement the digital bail bond system nationwide,” Md Khadem Ul Kayes added, signalling a continued push toward a fully modernised judiciary.
