BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed said, 'Why a Constituent Assembly should be held? Did Bangladesh become isolated? A Constituent Assembly is held only when a country becomes newly independent, after independence, in a country where there is no law, no constitution, and no government. Then a council is formed there and the constitution is written. The government is formed. But we got this country in 1971 by fighting for 9 months. Why is the Constituent Assembly being talked about here? Who wants to talk about it?”
He made these remarks as the chief guest at a function organized by BNP's co-organizing secretary Amirul Islam Khan Alim in Tamai area of Belkuchi upazila of Sirajganj on Saturday afternoon to distribute saris, lungis, Punjabis among 7,000 needy people in Belukchi-Chowhali-Enayetpur, Eid items among 1,000 families, and two lakh taka among the families of two martyrs.
Rizvi said, “By talking about reforms, they are playing hide and seek game with the people about elections. Once he said, March, once June, once December. Why is the interim government playing this game of hide and seek. Reforms are an ongoing process. Reforms will be done by the elected government. You can only make recommendations.”
He said, “Those who are friends of the Awami League have various misdeeds. RAB-police shot dead, children and youth were killed by shooting from helicopters. Sheikh Hasina created a bloody town. Why will it take so long to hold trial of the criminals including Hasina? And why will the rights of the people be taken away in the name of trial? Why can't the people elect their elected representatives?”
At that time, former Belkuchi Upazila BNP President Jamal Bhuiyan, former convener Nuru L Islam Golam, former member secretary Bani Amin, Municipality BNP former convener Altaf Hossain Pramanik, former general secretary Razzak Mandal and other BNP leaders and activists were present.
