BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman said, “After the fall of fascism, now the opportunity has come for all patriotic political parties, organizations, individuals and people of Bangladesh to ensure the journey of multi-party democracy and consolidate the country's independence and sovereignty through the united efforts of all patriotic political parties, organizations, individuals and people. This is the core spirit of independence.”
Tarique Rahman said this in a statement posted on social media Facebook on Tuesday on the occasion of the great independence and national day.
In the statement, Tarique Rahman said, “The great independence and national day marks the beginning of a new chapter in our national life through a new sunrise. The greatest achievement of this nation after a thousand years of struggle is the independence of Bangladesh. On this day, I extend my heartfelt greetings and congratulations to everyone, including the countrymen and expatriate Bangladeshis.”
He said, “The first thing that comes to mind in the joyful moments of this Independence Day is the sacrifice of the countless patriotic martyrs of this country; I pay my deep respect to them on this great day. The liberation of the motherland was achieved through their unforgettable sacrifice. I pay deep respect to the memory of all national leaders, including the great independence proclaimer, martyr President Ziaur Rahman Bir Uttam. The nation will never forget the contribution of those fearless freedom fighters who fought for our independence in the 9 months of our life and death struggle. I respectfully remember those mothers and sisters who made the ultimate sacrifice for the independence of the motherland. In the continuation of the struggle for freedom and independence, our map was revealed on the world map on the bloody path of the 1971 Liberation War.”
“On this day, martyr President Ziaur Rahman, the valliant son of the motherland, declared the independence of Bangladesh. In his historic declaration, the disoriented nation at that moment received the mantra of courage to jump into the liberation war. The people of this country participated in the 1971 Liberation War with the determination to build a liberal democratic Bangladesh free from exploitation, deprivation, and human equality. Unfortunately, the conspiracy of the forces destroying democracy has not stopped yet. Fascist, autocratic and illegal forces have repeatedly prevented us from achieving that goal. As a result of local and foreign conspiracies, our democracy and economic progress have stumbled and the sovereignty of independence has been endangered. After the assassination of the great independence proclaimer, martyr President Ziaur Rahman Bir Uttam, the trend of restoring democracy was initiated under the successful and fruitful leadership of the uncompromising leader of democracy, Begum Khaleda Zia. However, due to the enemies of democracy, it has not been possible to create a permanent and strong democratic structure. The fugitive illegal government has destroyed all the institutions of a democratic state with the aim of establishing a one-party regime. Even after 53 years of independence, the people of this country have not been able to reap the fruits of independence.”
“After the fall of fascism, now the opportunity was created to ensure the journey of multi-party democracy through the concerted efforts of all patriotic political parties, organizations, individuals and people of Bangladesh and consolidate the independence and sovereignty of the country. This is the core spirit of independence. On this great Independence and National Day today, I call upon the nation to uphold the core spirit of the great Liberation War of 1971— the democratic system of multiple opinions and ways, through a united and unified struggle,” he added.
