Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have seized items worth taka 170.18 crore during anti-smuggling drives across the country, reports UNB.
BGB members have seized arms, ammunition, drugs and other contraband items during the drives across the country, especially in bordering areas in the month of February.
During the period, the paramilitary force seized 2.529 kgs of gold, 85.400 kgs of silver, 3,39,990 cosmetics items, 7,116 imitations jewelry, 8,784 sarees, 6,811 three-piece/shirt-piece/bed-sheet/blankets, 12,202 meter unstitched fabric, 7,204 readymade garments, 16, 86,739 firecrackers, 6,782 cft timber, 2,434 kgs of tea leaves, 48,839 kgs of betel nuts, 2,69,824 kgs of sugar, 4,093 kgs of fertilizer, 32 liters of diesel, 23,820 kgs of coal, 1,310 cubic feet stones, 115 kgs of current nets, 3,852 mobile displays, 559 mobile phone sets, 30, 620 glasses, 67,135 kgs fruits, 670 kgs of edible oil, 4,336 kgs of onion, 2,483 kgs of garlic, 13,406 kg of cumin, 2,835 kgs of raisins, 1,91,591 pieces of chocolates, nine trucks, eleven pickups, two private cars/microbuses, one covered van, one tractor, 46 boats, 27 CNG/easybikes, 44 motorcycles and 31 bicycles, said a BGB media release signed by its Public Relations Officer Md Shariful Islam Wednesday.
The seized weapons consist of two pistols, two guns, two magazines, one mortar shell, five rounds of ammunition and 69 hand bombs.
The seized drugs and narcotics include 11, 59, 748 pieces of Yaba tablets, 5.878 kgs of heroin, 2.297 grams of cocaine, 23,044 bottles of Phensidyl, 14,935 bottles of foreign liquor, 160 liters of Bengal liquor, 713 cans of beer, 2,693 kg of cannabis, 3, 40, 242 packets of cigarettes, 40,914 narcotic tablets/injections, 3,787 bottles of Iscaf syrup, 208 bottles of Mkdil/Cofidil, 6,97,872 different types of medicine and 59,969 Enegra/Senegra tablets, according to the release.
Meanwhile, legal action has been initiated against 134 alleged smugglers, 281 Bangladeshi nationals and 13 Indian citizens for illegally crossing the border during this period.
Besides, 931 Myanmar nationals have been repatriated following their detention, according to the press release.
