Israel’s aid blockade has caused the price of food staples to spike in Gaza’s markets, putting them out of reach for most people, reports Al Jazeera.
In the central city of Deir el-Balah, the price of chicken has more than doubled since before the cutoff, jumping from $5.76 per kilo to $13.72 per kilo, reports the AP news agency. The price of cooking gas, meanwhile, has shot up more than 16 times, now trading at $406 for 12 kilos, the agency said.
Abeer Obeid, a Palestinian woman from northern Gaza, said the aid cutoff was stopping people from getting “basic necessities of life” and that Palestinians have begun to fear a war that is even “more severe” than before.
