The academic activities at Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) have been suspended until February 28. The decision was made during the 98th emergency meeting of the university's syndicate today (February 19).
The Syndicate also decided to ban political involvement among KUET faculty, students, and staff, expel students responsible for attacking fellow students, file cases against outsiders, and ensure student safety, including covering medical expenses for the injured.
Additionally, a four-member committee has been formed to identify the culprits and conduct a comprehensive investigation.
The decisions were made during the 98th emergency syndicate meeting, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mohammad Mashud. University Registrar Engr. Md. Anisur Rahman confirmed the details.
Earlier yesterday (February 18), clashes broke out multiple times between the anti-discrimination movement and Chatradal over the demand to ban student politics at KUET. The violence left around fifty students injured.
In response, students boycotted classes, demanding the resignation of the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, and Director of Student Affairs, along with four other key demands. This morning, students staged a sit-in in front of the KUET Medical Center, and later blocked the entrance to the administrative and academic buildings with a protest march, trapping the Vice-Chancellor and others inside.
