The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has revoked the notification regarding taking action against students for spreading propaganda against the government or the state. Professor Md. Abed Nomani, director (Monitoring and Evaluation) of the DSHE, has confirmed this information to the media.
Earlier, on January 2, a notification signed by Professor Abed Nomani stated that action would be taken against any educational institution or student involved in spreading propaganda or misinformation against the current government or the state.
The decision faced criticism on social media and other platforms over the past few days. In response to the backlash, the DSHE issued a notification on Wednesday announcing the cancellation of the previous directive.
Professor Nomani stated that the DSHE and the Ministry of Education jointly decided to revoke the earlier directive. However, he did not specify any particular reason for the cancellation.
The revoked notification mentioned that a decision was made during a monthly coordination meeting under the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education, emphasising the need for field-level officials to stay vigilant and take proactive steps to stop students from being influenced by misinformation or participating in actions that could provoke opposition to the government or the state.
The previous notification also instructed officials to report to higher authorities if any educational institution or student was found to be involved in such an offence.
