Former Bangladesh Bank (BB) deputy governor Sitangshu Kumar Sur Chowdhury (SK Sur Chowdhury) has been arrested and sent to jail in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
SK Sur was arrested on Tuesday afternoon on charges of amassing wealth beyond his known sources of income and concealing information. He was later produced before a Dhaka court, which sent him to jail.
Two other accused in the case are Sur’s wife Suparna Sur Chowdhury, and daughter Nandita Sur Chowdhury.
ACC deputy director (public relations) Md Aktarul Islam said the case was filed on December 23, last year based on the preliminary investigation report.
Several accused in the case in their statement said that Sur Chowdhury helped Prashanta Kumar Haldar, widely known as PK Halder’s loan scam.
Earlier, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) asked banks to send account details of SK Sur Chowdhury, his wife Suparna Sur Chowdhury, and daughter Nandita Sur Chowdhury as part of an investigation into the allegation of a tax evasion case against the three.
