The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka issued an order on January 13, directing the detention of Awami League leader and former State Minister for Industry, Kamal Ahmed Majumder, in connection with a murder case filed at the Kafrul Police Station in the capital.
Earlier, on October 19, he was arrested from a residence in Gulshan, Dhaka, in connection with the murder of Jagannath University student Ikramul Haque.
The former State Minister for Industry was granted three days of remand by the court for questioning.
According to case documents, Ikramul Haque was shot and killed near the Mirpur-10 roundabout during a student protest on July 29. His father, Ziaul Haque, filed a murder case at the Kafrul Police Station, naming Majumder as an accused.
Following the departure of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5, Majumder, like several other ministers and lawmakers, went into hiding.
He is facing multiple charges in various cases.
