Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said the media must be made independent first to institutionalize democracy in the country.
“This is the high time to bring the powerful groups accountable. Because this government didn’t interfere with the media’s freedom and wouldn’t do so in the future. The interim government has ensured the freedom of questions in the last five months. Media has freedom now. They (media) can criticize all including the Chief Adviser,” he said.
Shafiqul Alam came up with the observation at the inaugural ceremony of the Development Media Forum at a city hotel on Sunday.
He said, “There is a lobbying group here that we haven’t questioned yet. According to the media reports, we have 215 green factories. Are these green?”
The logo of the Development Media Forum was also unveiled at the function.
The press secretary said that the forum will connect journalists and development activists. Besides, training will be facilitated to increase the professional skills of the journalists.
An information hub will be created if necessary, he added.
