The Secretariat will reopen on Sunday after being temporarily closed due to a severe fire at the government's main administrative building.
With power restored to all buildings except the fire-damaged Building No. 7, other ministries will face no difficulty resuming regular activities in their original offices.
However, operations for ministries housed in the damaged building will be conducted from alternative government offices across Dhaka.
The building houses several important offices on its 20 floors. Even when the head of government works from the Secretariat, they use an office in this building.
The offices of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, Road Transport and Highways Division, Ministry of Finance, Finance Division, Financial Institutions Division, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Local Government Division, Rural Development and Cooperatives Division, Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Posts and Telecommunications Division and the Ministry of Youth and Sports are also located in the nine-storey bloc.
Following the fire on Thursday, power supply to the Secretariat was temporarily disrupted.
The road transport and bridges ministry will conduct activities from the Rail Bhaban.
Youth and sports ministry, labour and employment ministry, and posts, telecommunications and information technology ministry will relocate to National Sports Council building, Srama Bhaban, and Agargaon’s Daak Bhaban, respectively.
Housing and public works ministry spokesperson Md Alamgir Hossain told bdnews24.com that there are no difficulties in conducting office activities.
"We are all set to resume work from Sunday," he added.
Earlier, Advisor Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain had confirmed that the local government ministry’s activities would continue from the vacant rooms in Nagar Bhaban.
During a meeting with ministry officials at his residence on Hair Road on Saturday, the advisor said: "Official activities will not be suspended even for a day."
Road transport and bridges ministry spokesperson Nobel Dey confirmed that the ministry would relocate some activities to rooms in the Rail Bhaban starting Sunday.
"We have decided to use several rooms there, and I will share the room of the Railways' PRO[Public Relations Officer],” he said.
Youth and Sports ministry spokesperson Md Nur Alam confirmed that ministry officials would continue their work at the National Sports Council.
"The Secretary visited the building [on Friday], and the arrangements for office work have been made. We will start operations there from Sunday," he told bdnews24.com
The labour ministry’s employees will continue their work from the Sromo Bhaban, according to Nur.
