The Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park project in Moulvibazar has been canceled at the meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).
Planning and Education Advisor Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud shared this information at a press conference after the meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) at his office at the Planning Commission in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital on Monday.
The ECNEC meeting was presided over by Chief Advisor and ECNEC Chairperson Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
10 projects have been approved in the ECNEC meeting. The total cost of implementing the projects will be Tk 1,974.30 crore. Of this, government funding will be of Tk 1,642.98 crore and the organization's own funding will be Tk 3,313.2 crore.
Advisor Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud said ECNEC members were informed about 6 projects at the meeting. Among these, the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park in Moulvibazar (Phase 1) project was presented in the ECNEC meeting for cancellation and the proposal to cancel the project was approved. The project was canceled considering the loss of biodiversity.
The area designated for this project is reserved for animals and birds, the advisor said.
