The Electoral Reform Commission chief Badiul Alam Majumdar has said that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will not be used in the next national elections.
He also said who committed electoral crimes in the past, will have to face music.
Badiul Alam Majumdar made the remarks while speaking at a roundtable discussion at Dhaka Reporters Unity in the capital on Monday.
The Electoral Reform Commission chief said, “Our first target is to bring back confidence among us. We couldn’t develop the democratic system in 53-54 years. Our electoral system went exile. Now reformations are underway to wipe out the useless plants. The reformation aims to create a level playing field. A free, fair and neutral election is possible through a level playing field. Through this system, the next elected government will remember in which system they assume power.”
He said, “We hope that if the electoral system remains in the hands of the caretaker government in two-three terms, people will be used to it. Reformation proposals are being made for this perspective. We are hopeful about it.”
Mentioning that the election will be fair and neutral after the reformation, Badiul Alam said a possibility is being created through reformations.
