Civil Aviation and Tourism and Land Adviser AF Hassan Ariff passed away while undergoing treatment at Labaid Specialized Hospital in Dhaka on Friday. He was 83.
He breathed his last around 3:30 pm at the hospital, according to family sources.
“My father was feeling sick and suddenly collapsed on the floor this afternoon. At once, we took him to Labaid Hospital where doctors declared him dead,” Ariff’s son Moaz Arif said.
On August 8, AF Hassan Ariff took the oath as an adviser to the Interim Government.
He served as Attorney General from 2001 to April 28, 2005, and also acted as an adviser on law, justice, and parliamentary affairs, land, and religious affairs in the Caretaker Government led by Fakhruddin Ahmed.
Born in 1941 in Kolkata, AF Hassan Ariff completed his secondary and higher secondary education at St. Xavier's College, Kolkata, before earning his bachelor's degree and LLB from the University of Calcutta.
He began his legal career in 1967 at the Calcutta High Court in West Bengal, India, and later moved to Dhaka, where he continued his practice at the High Court of Bangladesh.
