BNP inaugurated its district office in Gopalganj on Friday, the political party’s first district-level office activity in the Awami League bastion in 17 years.
Sirajul Islam Siraj, BNP’s former Goplaganj district unit president, inaugurated the tin-made office located at Getpara area in the district town.
A small rally was held at the office where BNP leaders Azizur Rahman Beno, Alamgir Hossain, Khairul Islam and Central Olama Dal leader Md Omar Faruk spoke.
Sirajul Islam Siraj claimed that over the past 17 years, the Awami League government used law enforcers to persecute BNP activists and keep shut the party’s district office. To chart a bright future for the party in the district, he urged BNP activists to avoid opportunists.
A dua mahfil was held at the inauguration event.
Afterwards, hundreds of BNP activists distributed leaflets among locals to garner support for the party’s 31-point state reform proposal.
However, no leader from BNP’s district convener committee or from its affiliated bodies attended the district office inauguration ceremony.
