At least four people, including two drivers, were killed and 20 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck in Dinajpur on Friday morning, according to police.
The accident took place around 8:30 a.m. at the Chakai intersection on the Dinajpur-Panchagarh highway, said Abdul Gafur, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Birganj Police Station.
Among the deceased were the drivers of the bus and truck, along with two passengers from the bus. The OC noted that further details about the casualties were not immediately available.
The injured were initially taken to Birganj Upazila Health Complex. Of them, six individuals in critical condition were later transferred to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, the OC added.
Citing local accounts, OC Gafur reported that the collision occurred when a paddy-laden truck collided with a Panchagarh-bound bus traveling from Dhaka. The impact killed four people instantly and injured about 20 others.
Police and Fire Service personnel arrived promptly at the scene to rescue the injured and transport them to the hospital, Gafur confirmed.
