BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on Monday warned his party leaders and workers that the upcoming national election will be one of the toughest in the history of Bangladesh, and urged them to work hard to garner public support.
Tarique Rahman said, "My 30-35 years of political experience tells me that the upcoming elections will be very tough as people's thinking has changed. So if we have made any mistakes, we should apologize to the people to correct ourselves."
He said this to the leaders and activists while virtually participating in the Mymensingh BNP's divisional training workshop on 31 points for repairing the state structure and public affairs at the Town Hall Tarique Memorial Auditorium in Mymensingh city on Monday afternoon.
He also said many leaders and activists think that we have already come to power, but that is not the case. To come to power, we need public support. We have to earn the support of the people. We have to be with the people. We have to maintain their trust. We have to ensure that people do not suffer due to the actions of the leaders.
In his speech as the chief guest, Tarique Rahman said, “BNP gave 31 points because it thinks of the people of the country. Even discussions were held with like-minded parties that were with us regarding these 31 points. Now it has to be delivered to the people at the district, upazila and union levels.
In response to a question from a BNP leader at the workshop, Tarique Rahman said, "To strengthen a country, emphasis should be placed on primary education. We should reduce the construction of buildings and arrange for training for teachers. Those who are qualified in our society will be appointed as teachers in primary schools."
He said, "We think that to strengthen a country socially and politically, we have to strengthen the local administration. We will work towards that goal. If a farmer can be given Tk 20,000 assistance to cultivate one bigha of land, then they will be able to earn 40,000 taka. It will be a big achievement for a farmer. Every family will also be given a family card, to support them on behalf of the state. BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman said that such facilities will be provided if BNP comes to power.”
Earlier, BNP inaugurated a day-long training workshop for farmers at 9 am. Senior member of the party's standing committee, Nazrul Islam Khan. BNP Joint Secretary General Syed Emran Saleh Prince, Chairperson's Advisor Ismail Zabi Ullah, National Executive Committee Organizing Secretary Shariful Alam, Acting Chairman's Advisor Dr. Mahadi Amin, BNP Treasurer Rashiduzzaman Millat, Divisional Co-Organizing Secretary Wares Ali Mamun, Abu Wahab Akand Wahid, Former MP Rehana Akhter Ranu, Central Krishak Dal Joint General Secretary Mahmuda Habiba spoke at the workshop.
The workshop was jointly moderated by BNP National Executive Committee's Co-Public Education Secretary Anisur Rahman Talukder Khokon and Executive Committee Member (attached to the office) Abdus Sattar Patwari. 360 delegates participated in the workshop.
