Tourist ships have restarted services on the Teknaf-Saint Martin route in Cox's Bazar after a nine-month hiatus.
A ship named 'Baro Aulia' departed from the BIWTC terminal in Nuniyar Chhara, Cox's Bazar, with 653 tourists on board, heading towards Saint Martin at 10 am on Sunday.
Earlier, although tourist ships were scheduled to begin operations on Thursday, the ferry service to Saint Martin was temporarily suspended due to a shortage of passengers. This was confirmed by Hossain Islam Bahadur, the General Secretary of the Sea Cruise Operator Owners Association of Bangladesh.
He said that after being suspended for more than nine months, ship services on the Cox’s Bazar-Saint Martin route have resumed. Today, on the first day, the "Baro Aulia" ship set off for Saint Martin with 653 passengers on board. As a result, both tourists and those involved in tourism are now relieved and smiling.
The Chairperson of the Saint Martin Tourism Control Committee and the Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) of Cox's Bazar Sadar, Nilufa Yasmin Chowdhury, said, "On the first day, a ship set off for Saint Martin with 653 passengers. We have inspected everything."
