A member of the police reform commission of the interim government has recommended establishing a dedicated body for the recruitment of police, outside the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination framework.
“Police force reflects society. We need to see whether a separate commission for the police can be created outside the BCS. Also, technology-based forensic activities can be introduced for more accuracy,” Golam Rasul, a former additional IGP, told a discussion on Saturday.
Humanity Foundation organised the open discussion on reformation of police at CIRDAP auditorium in Dhaka.
The reform commission member also suggested a sub-commission to investigate the anomalies inside the security force.
“The central commission can supervise the sub-commission. There should be separate offices for research and commission activities,” he said.
Addressing the programme, former IGP Mohammad Nurul Huda claimed that infrastructure of police has been destroyed over the last one decade. “Police suffered from damage of militarisation inside the force. They are trying to move like the military. That’s why police reform is necessary,” he said.
Former District and Sessions Judge Iqtedar Ahmed, Prof Muzahidul Islam of Jahangirnagar University, Global University Bangladesh Vice-Chancellor Dr Anisuzzaman also spoke on the occasion while Humanity Foundation Chairman Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman presided over the session.
