BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan said, “We have a responsibility to restore democracy in the country as those who gave their lives for democracy cannot be dishonored.”
Nazrul said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion titled '43rd founding anniversary of the Bangladesh Khilafat Movement and what we can do to confront fascism and its allies' at the National Press Club on Friday.
The BNP leader said, “Those who are fighting against fascism in Bangladesh must unite. It is not possible to defeat fascism without united efforts. We have a responsibility to restore democracy in the country. Those who gave their lives for democracy cannot be dishonored anyway.”
He also said, “Our main responsibility for restoring democracy is to arrange fair elections. The responsibility of the interim government is to arrange fair elections, where the people's opinions will be accurately reflected.”
Regarding the restoration of democracy, Nazrul Islam Khan said starting from the 1952 Language Movement to the 1990 anti-dictatorship movement, the people of the country have shed a lot of blood. But even after independence, we have witnessed one-party rule, military dictatorship and the killing of democracy.
The discussion meeting was presided over by Senior Nayeb-e-Amir of the Bangladesh Khilafat Movement Mohammad Azam Khan. Also present were the organization's Central Joint Secretary General Mufti Enayet Ullah Hafezzi, Secretary General Mufti Fakhrul Islam and others.
