To avoid the winter fog, international flights heading for Dhaka airport can land at airports in Sylhet and Chattogram, the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh said Sunday as it seeks to end reliance on foreign airports.
Air Vice Marshal Md Monjur Kabir Bhuiyan, chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, issued instructions in this regard while observing renovation works at the Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram city, reports UNB.
Each year, to avoid dense fog, many Dhaka-bound passenger planes land at airports in nearby countries as the country’s two other international airports do not have 24-hour flight landing services.
However, this winter, Shah Amanat International Airport in the port city will keep the services functional for 24 hours four days a week, while the Osmani International Airport in Sylhet will allow planes to land throughout the day on the remaining three days a week to accommodate Dhaka-bound flights.
