The tribunal has acquitted Mia Nuruddin Opu, the former personal secretary of BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, in an anti-terrorism case filed with the Motijheel police station in Dhaka.
On Tuesday, Judge Mohammad Abdul Halim of the Dhaka Anti-Terrorism Special Tribunal issued the order.
Masud Ahmed Talukder, BNP Chairperson's advisor and lawyer, has said that the case is “baseless and fabricated.”
Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Opu was the BNP-nominated candidate for the Shariatpur-3 constituency in the 11th National Parliamentary Election.
On December 24, 2018, he was attacked during an election campaign and admitted to United Hospital in Dhaka. Later, on January 4, he was arrested by RAB-1. Subsequently, Subedar Md. Ibrahim Hossain of RAB-3 filed a case with the Motijheel police station under the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Acts.
