36 Bangladeshi expatriates have returned from war-ravaged Lebanon on Wednesday (today). They were repatriated via a Saudi Air flight, fully funded by the government. At the airport, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment welcomed them.
So far, a total of 216 Bangladeshis have returned from Lebanon to Bangladesh.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) provided each repatriated Bangladeshi with a stipend of 5,000 taka, some food supplies, and also basic medical care.
Mostafa Jamil Khan, the Foreign Ministry's Director, spoke with the returning Bangladeshis at the airport about the horrors of war and checked on their well-being. No reports of any Bangladeshi casualties in Lebanon have been received so far.
It has been reported that the government will bring back all the expatriates who are willing to come from Lebanon. The current interim government is also doing its best to make sure that the expatriates from Lebanon can safely return to Bangladesh.
