Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan said use of fossil fuel is one of the main drivers of climate change and emphasized the need to reduce its use, adapt development models, and work collectively to control pollution.
She delivered these remarks in a video message on Saturday at the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) during the mentoring programme titled "Journalism in the Age of Energy Transition: COP29 Coverage Strategies and Mentoring."
The programme aimed to enhance the skills of journalists in print, electronic, and online media in preparation for coverage of the upcoming COP29.
Rizwana Hasan further stated the importance of effectively covering climate conferences and using knowledge from training to support at-risk communities through actionable steps, said a media release.
The event was chaired by PIB Director General Faruk Wasif, with moderation by CAPS Chairman Professor Dr. Ahmad Kamruzzaman Majumder.
BRAC University’s Emeritus Professor Dr. Ainun Nishat was the Guest of Honour.
Sweden Embassy’s First Secretary for Environment and Climate Change Naoka Martinez Backstrom, and Managing Director of the Journalists Welfare Trust M Abdullah were present at the event.
