A low-pressure over east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining North Andaman Sea area has intensified into a well-marked low over the same area, and is very highly likelty to turn into a cyclonic storm by Wednesday.
Named Cyclone Dana, the storm is expected to make landfall on Khulna division as well as parts of India's Odisha and West Bengal states on Thursday, according to the Indian met office.
One of the most likely manifestation of the cyclone is expected to be high waves reaching 7 to 8 feet above normal tidal levels when hitting coastal areas of Bagerhat, Satkhira and Khulna districts. Storm surges of aroud 5 feet are also expected along the coasts of Barguna, Bhola, Noakhali, Chattogram and Patuakhali.
From its early Monday position the cyclone was likely to move west-northwesterly direction further, said a special bulletin of the Bangladesh Met office.
All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been advised to come close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice, so that they can take shelter within a short notice.
